The Memdeklaro self-sovereign identity framework is designed to be simple, private, and entirely under your control. Because it runs locally in your web browser, no data you enter is ever sent to a server or stored in a central database.

Step 1: Open the Web App

Navigate to the official website: https://memdeklaro.org and scroll down to the "Make Your Self-Declaration" section, or click the "Generator" link.

Step 2: Fill in Your Details

Enter your chosen information into the form. You have complete freedom over what to write, as this is a self-declared identity. The required and optional fields include:

• First name (Antaŭnomo)

• Surname (Nomo)

• Birth date (Naskiĝdato)

• Date of issuance (Eldondato)

• Date of expiry (Limdato)

• ID number (Numero – a 10-digit number of your choosing)

• Note (Notoj – optional, max 2 lines)

• Issuer (Eldonisto – e.g., EPO for Esperantujo, MEM for Memdeklaro, or your own initials)

Step 3: Add Visual Elements

• Photo (Foto): Upload a digital image (standard ratio is 35mm × 45mm). Unlike government IDs, you are free to choose any photo that represents you.

• Signature (Subskribo): Upload an image of your signature or draw one digitally.

• Optional Features: You can choose to include a barcode or generate a DID (Decentralized Identifier), which creates a self-asserted JSON-LD credential for digital wallet use.

Step 4: Generate and Download

Click the "Generate" button. The tool will instantly render your self-sovereign ID. You will be presented with several download options:

• Download Front / Download Back: High-resolution image files of each side of the card.

• Download PDF: A print-ready PDF file that includes a QR code linking to your self-declaration.

• Self-Asserted Verifiable Credential (JSON-LD): If you included a decentralized identifier, you can download this file to self-sign with your DID key and import into a compatible digital identity wallet.

Step 5: Print or Use Digitally

You can use your self-sovereign identity immediately as a digital file, or create a physical copy:

• DIY Printing: Print the front and back image files as a business card. The standard dimensions are 85.6mm × 54mm.

• Professional Printing: Upload the front and back image files to any online custom card printer and order them as CR-80 plastic cards for a durable, professional feel.

Important Tips & Best Practices

1. Privacy First: For maximum privacy, you can disconnect your internet connection after loading the Memdeklaro webpage. The generator will continue to work entirely offline.

2. Understand Its Limits: Memdeklaro is a humanitarian and self-sovereign identity tool. It is not a legally recognized government document. It cannot be used for border crossing, official banking KYC, or legal transactions that strictly require state-issued ID.

3. Use Case: It is best used as an alternative ID for informal use cases (e.g., memberships, communities, peer-to-peer transactions, or asserting your chosen name and identity in daily life).
