Puppy Cries in the Crate at Night — A Calm First-Night Plan

If your puppy cries in the crate at night, they are usually lonely, need a potty trip, or the crate still feels new. Keep the first nights boring and close by: crate near your bed, one last calm potty trip, no play after lights-out.

Try tonight:

  1. Put the crate where they can hear you breathe.
  2. Last potty trip right before bed, then straight into the crate.
  3. If they cry, wait a minute. If it rises or sounds panicked, take them out on leash for potty only — no cuddles — then back in.
  4. Cover three sides of the crate if the room is bright or busy.
