Redesign brand brief · v1

The sleepy side
of collecting.

A warm, funny field guide to trading cards where Pokémon have dozed off, presented as if a mischievous night-shift doodler passed through after lights-out.

01 · The opportunity

Keep the utility. Add a point of view.

The current site is a useful curated database of 148 sleepy cards: previews, prices, collector facts, filters, checklist, submissions and individual card pages. Its dark, technical interface feels calm and capable, but more like an inventory tool than a playful world.

POSITIONING

The warm, collector-smart guide for finding, appreciating and building a binder around cards caught napping.

PROMISE

One delight. One next step.

Every visit reveals one charming card and offers an easy move: browse, compare, save, add to checklist or submit another.

KEEP

Card art stays the hero

Preserve fast scanning, prices, filters, checklist, submissions and the quiet dark canvas.

AUDIENCE

Binder builders, cozy-art fans, gift shoppers, parents and kids.

Welcome the $0.17 Abra collector as warmly as the $500 grail hunter.

02 · Brand system

Midnight bedroom. Marker ink. Card binder.

Core device: “after-sleep doodles.” Loose crowns, whiskers, stars, glasses, moustaches, snore clouds, underlines and circled details. Place them around the interface and beside card art, never permanently over the cards.

Caught napping.

Friendly, rounded, confident. Baloo 2 is the backup.

UI + DATA · INTER
SET · NUMBER · RARITY · ARTIST · PRICE

Precise and invisible. Handwriting is reserved for tiny annotations only.

03 · Logo direction

One restrained intervention.

WORDMARK

Rounded, mostly clean

Try sleepy eyes inside an O, a pink underline becoming a snore trail, or a tiny marker crown over “Sleepy.”

ICON

Original night-shift mascot

A closed-eye moon, pillow or binder tab holding a marker. It should work at favicon size.

TAGLINE

Cards caught napping.

Use “The sleepy side of collecting” when a fuller brand line fits better.

04 · Voice

A sharp collector whispering something funny.

Short, specific and warm. Small joke first, useful fact immediately after. Describe what is actually visible in the artwork.

DO
“Phanpy is fully out in the grass.”

“Browse the sleepy stack.”
“Who fell asleep?”
“Caught another one napping? Send it in.”
“148 cards, zero alarm clocks.”

DON’T
No baby talk or pun avalanche.

Avoid nonstop sleep jokes, empty hype, investment promises and invented story details. Facts first. Personality second.

05 · Page architecture

Every page is a room in the sleepover.

Home · The SleepoverCompact intro, sleepiest card tonight, search, browse by mood/Pokémon/set/budget, new additions and starter collections.
Browse · The Sleepy StackPersistent search, sticker-like filters, count, sort, grid/list view and curated filters like “under $5,” “group naps” and “outdoor sleepers.”
Card · Caught NappingLarge image and facts first, one line on why it belongs, side doodles, related sleepers, price freshness and checklist action.
Collections · Bedtime StoriesBinder-ready stories: ten under $10, best group naps, artist collections and nine-card layouts.
Checklist · Dream BinderOwned/wanted states, progress, printable checklist and optional 3×3 or 4×3 planning.
Submit · Spotted SnoozingA friendly form for nontechnical users, even if GitHub remains the backend.
About · Why SleepyThe collector story, inclusion rules, price/data method, update cadence and fan-project disclaimer.
06 · Interaction kit

Small moments, never a toy box.

Doodle draws in on hover
Filters peel off like stickers
Show me a sleeper
Binder milestone doodles
Optional “Lights out” palette
Reduced-motion support

No autoplay sound, bouncing gimmicks or decoration that obscures the cards. Motion should reveal, confirm or reward.

07 · Content + safety

Build charm on top of trust.

Content model

Observed detail: one thing actually visible in the art.
Collector detail: one useful buying, binder or set fact.
Editorial tags: cozy, deep sleeper, group nap, outdoor sleeper.
Price: always include source and “as of” date.

IP-safe boundary

The theme comes from the behavior of drawing on sleepers, not from owning Jigglypuff. Do not use Jigglypuff, its silhouette, signature features, a Poké Ball or official-style lettering as the brand identity. Use original mascots, doodles and marks. Keep a clear fan-project disclaimer and credit card artwork appropriately.

08 · Practical build plan

Ship the world in three passes.

PHASE 1 · FOUNDATION

Make the first impression real.

  • Lock positioning, palette and type
  • Compact logo + 12-piece doodle kit
  • Redesign home, browse and card detail
PHASE 2 · CONTENT

Make the system trustworthy.

  • Split facts from editorial copy
  • Add price source/date and sleep tags
  • Add owned/wanted states
  • Rewrite the top 20 pages first
PHASE 3 · DEPTH

Make collecting feel personal.

  • Collections and binder builder
  • Friendly submission form
  • Restrained interactive rewards
Implementation note: during review, the current collection briefly reloaded from 148 cards to 0. Treat that client-side data-loading edge case as a separate reliability fix before layering on more interaction.
